We are now a month into 2018 – how are you holding up with your new years’ goals?

February marks a month-long celebration of Black History (I’m biracial – my mother is from St. Lucia – so black history is always a special time for me) and also marks the hopeful appearance of Wiarton Willie (the Canadian equivalent to Punxsutawney Phil) to let us know just how much longer we need to deal with the snow. But regardless of this key events this month, sometimes February can just be another long month of winter.

If you’re an Ottawa local or visiting the Nations’ Capital for the first time, here are some fun activities you can get out to this month to help make another month of winter a little more bearable.

One of my fave activities as a kid was bundling up and going to Winterlude.

What’s not to love? There’s sledding, cool ice sculptures, and snowy playgrounds!

This event truly transforms the city into a winter wonderland!

Winterlude festivities run on the weekends only so be sure to plan accordingly.

Skate on The Rideau CanalUntil Mar 4Things To Do in Ottawa This Month | Lifestyle Queen Bee

Every winter, the Rideau Canal turns into the world’s biggest outdoor skating rink (it’s true – It’s in Guinness World Records!)

So dust off your skates that have been sitting in your parents’ garage and head down for a quick skate. You can warm yourself up afterward with a hot chocolate and another Canadian staple, a delicious Beavertail.

Take In a Hockey Game With the Ottawa Senators (Until Apr 2) or The Ottawa 67’s (Until Mar 18)

If you’re a fan of the NHL, you’ve heard of our hometown team, the Ottawa Senators.

Grab a friend and catch a game at the Canadian Tire Centre (If you’re like me, the game is a great place to people watch too!)

If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative closer to the downtown core, check out our OHL team, the Ottawa 67’s at the beautiful TD Place at Landsdowne (Our 2016 CFL Grey Cup winning team, The Red Blacks, play there!) and grab a bite to eat at one of the delicious restaurants close by before the game.
