- Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.
Hi! I’m Ashlyn and I’m a twenty-something year old blogger wife to the most amazing husband in the world. We live in Montana and have a crazy, spastic Black Labrador named Oakley. I am a true city girl in my mind but Montana has been slowly stealing my heart 🙂 I’m very outgoing and loud, but also very focused and driven. I love to go on long walks and talk, go on hikes, I drink a lot of coffee, and obviously I love to blog! I started this blog as a creative outlet and to tell stories about what I am doing! I want to use it as a way to document my life, but also share fun recipes, DIY’s, stories, etc. with my readers. My long-term plan is to turn my blog into our families main source of income 🙂
- What would you ideal working environment be?
My ideal working environment would be at home! I would absolutely love to have a home office that’s bright, clean and has all the room I need to do my projects! I love to take photos, so I would love to have a photography corner with lighting, backdrops, etc.
- How do you manage your time to efficiently and effectively run your blog?
This has been a definite learning journey for me. I am typically really good at time management but when it comes to my blog, it was a lot more difficult than I thought. I would miss deadlines, forget to post, lose passwords, and so much more. I started to write down everything that needed to be done every day for my blog and then I would work through the checklist. Some days, I would forget some things and then eventually, I stopped using the lists altogether. Now, I have worked out a system that works really well for me! Every Sunday, I sit down and write out every single thing that needs to be done including: automated emails for the week, how many articles to write, which social media platforms to post on and when to post (depending on traffic highs & lows), emails to respond to, bloggers to contact, EVERYTHING! I then set an alarm for everything that needs to be done the entire week (my phone always has 20-30 alarms set at a time…but it works!) so that way when a timer goes off, I do it immediately and then I don’t have to worry about it again! I use a program called HootSuite where you can manage your social media posts. It can post to Instagram and Facebook for you, and also remind you to post to Instagram. This is awesome for my Sunday planning as well because I can plan out ALL of my posts for the entire week and never have to think about them again! It’s a lot of work, usually 1-2 hours every Sunday but it has been helping tremendously!
- Who has influenced you most in blogging and how?
Abby Lawson from “Just a Girl and Her Blog” has influenced me the most in blogging. I took her “The 10 Day Blogging QuickStart” course and I used it to revamp my blog I had already started. I learned so much from her it was incredible and I thank her so much for helping me turn my blog around and get it to where it is today!
- What advice do you have for a newbie blogger?
Stick with it! When I started, I remember thinking “wow this is going to be so time consuming” and I almost quit a few times just because I thought it would be too difficult! It is difficult, but it’s worth it! If blogging is something you really want to do, then do it! I love having a creative outlet like this and I am so thankful that I am continuing to use it!
- Where would you like to be in blogging five years from now?
My long-term goal with my blog is to make it my families main source of income. In five years I would love for my blog to be a platform where others can get help blogging, find yummy recipes, and try out some fun DIY’s! I want to use it to express my life and to share with others all the fun that can be had with a home-run business!
- How active are you on a weekly basis? How often do you communicate with your followers?
At the moment I am quite active. I consistently post 3-4 times a week and I keep up with all of my social media platforms. I communicate with all of my followers at the moment and as quickly as I can (usually within a few hours). I do have a lot of free time and few followers so this makes it easy. I hope to be able to keep up with it though as my followers increase! I love when bloggers/fitness models/chefs/etc. communicate with their followers, after all, their followers are the only reason that they are who they are now!
- How much time do you spend blogging?
Including everything from writing an article to taking photos for my articles to revamping my website I would say I spend about 20 hours a week blogging! I typically spend 2-3 hours a day doing something blog-related.
- Who takes the majority of your photos?
I do! My husband and I bought our first camera last year and since then I have been teaching myself all there is to know about photography, I have been taking some courses and learning things from other bloggers and photographers as well! My husband does take some of the photos too! Also, my friend Maddy has taken a few of me that you’ll find on my blog as well 🙂
- What would you say is the greatest satisfaction of being a Lifestyle blogger?
Being a lifestyle blogger is hard because it is such a broad topic. But because it is such a broad topic is also what makes it so fun! I don’t have to stick to just recipes or just fashion and so on, I can write about anything and everything that I want to and when I want to! It’s fun to explore all of the options and really just share my life with my readers!
Thanks so much for letting us get to know you better, Ashlyn!
