If you thought having JUST a morning & evening skincare routine was enough, you’re mistaken. You need to give your skin pampering 1-2 times a week to really see results. In today’s post, I discuss my weekly treatment skincare routine as well as the products I regularly use.

3 Keys to an Effective Weekly Treatment Skincare Routine

  1. Establish When Weekly Treatments Take Place
    Choosing a specific day and time can help integrate the routine into your daily schedule flawlessly. As my skin tends to require more maintenance, my weekly treatments occur twice a week EVERY week. If you’re skin is less of a Diva than mine is, you can stick to just once a week. I have my weekly treatments on Wednesday and Sundays; I chose Wednesday as it’s the middle of the week and I can combat the stress from the week so far while prepping to finish the week off. Sundays is the day I prep for a new week so prepping my skin falls into accordance with that line of thinking. As I do my weekly treatments before bed, I start off with my evening skincare routine. This is the most effective time for your skin to rejuvenate and products to really work their magic.
  2. Masks
    I LOVE a good face mask! Store bought, DIY, doesn’t matter the type, I am all for a face mask. When you have large pores and oily skin like I do, a face mask is a LIFE SAVER, especially when you’re having a particularly stressful week and it starts to show on your face. A good mask can provide you with an amazing deep clean to help flush out all the impurities from your skin. While I’m a face mask junkie, the one that is currently in my routine is LUSH Cosmetics’ Mask of Magnaminty (you can read about my Holy Grail of LUSH Products here in case you missed it). This mask deep cleans your face with China clay and fresh peppermint. It also contains vanilla absolute to calm redness and honey to soothe your skin.
  3. Spot Remedies
    We’ve all been there. The pimple that shows up and makes itself at home on your face when you REALLY don’t need it. While spot remedies are great to use within your regular routines, working with a higher strength spot treatment can help give you the extra power to give your unwanted guest the boot. I like to use Benzagel Spot-On Acne Gel when I feel a pimple coming or when one has already broke the surface. This treatment is super effective and fast acting! I dab a bit on before bed and wake up to a vanished pimple (or one that’s shrunken overnight).

Evening Skincare Routine

Nighttime is when we rejuvenate and because of this, there is often more products integrated into our nightly routine. The main focus in your evening skincare routine is getting your face clean and as hydrated as possible.

5 Step Evening Skincare Routine

  1. Wipe Away The Day (& Your Makeup)
    Removing your make-up at night can be the last thing you want to do but it’s really important. Sleeping in your make-up can cause extensive damage to your skin such as wrinkles and blemishes. I use Neutrogena All-in-One Make-Up Removing Cleansing Wipes to take all the make-up off my face. Be sure to be gentle, especially around your eyes, as your skin is very delicate and sensitive in this area. You don’t want to irritate your skin. If you’re out of wipes, I always keep a pack of baby wipes on hand to use in a pinch – they’re used for sensitive baby skin so it’s perfect for your face!
  2. Deep Clean Your Face
    Now you’re ready to clean your face. Cleansing your face is important, especially at night. You are literally getting your beauty sleep so you want to make sure you get the most use out of this time. To clean my face and make me feel refreshed and relaxed before I head off to dreamland, I use LUSH Cosmetics’ Cup O’ Coffee Face & Body Mask (This was one of the products I raved about in my HOLY GRAIL OF LUSH PRODUCTS post). While it’s technically a mask, I like to use it as a cleanser. I gently scrub it on to not irritate my skin, leave it for about 5 minutes and rinse off. The Kaolin in this scrub deeply cleanses impurities from your pores and the ground coffee gently scrubs away dryness.
  3. Tone, Tone, Tone
    If you have oily-prone skin like myself, a facial toner is exactly what you need. Toners help to clarify your skin while acting as an extra step to ensure you’ve wiped away all your makeup from your skin. Just as I use in my morning skincare routine, I spritz on LUSH Cosmetics’ Tea Tree Water Toner to my face, leave on for a few minutes and pat dry with a clean facecloth. It helps to reduce redness in the skin, clear excess oil without drying you out and helps to combat blemishes.
  4. Apply Your Serum or Facial Oil
    Pamper your skin while reducing wrinkles and combatting oily skin with a great serum or facial oil. As I use a serum in my morning skincare routine, I switch things up at night with a facial oil. You may think I’m insane for applying MORE oil to my oil-proned skin, but after doing some research, I found the ancient Egyptians used oils to help keep their skin young and vibrant. If you’re new to facial oils, I would recommend Peter Thomas Roth Oilless Oil 100% Purified Squalane which I personally use and have experienced amazing results. 
  5. Seal the Deal with Moisturizer
    The best thing you can do for your skin is making sure you moisturize before bed so you can wake up with hydrated skin. A good moisturizer helps to make fine lines and wrinkles less visible. I like to use Clinique Turnaround Overnight Revitalizing Moisturizer which I apply to my face & neck every evening. This moisturizer is fantastic for repairing the effects of sun damage and reenergizes your skin while you sleep. TIP: To get the best results from your skincare routine, make sure you use a clean face cloth & towel – be sure to pat your face dry & not rub as the friction can not only irritate our skin but can help to encourage wrinkles!
