5 Winter Staples Every Girl Needs
Between the snowstorms, icy roads, and frigid winds, winter just plain sucks.
Not only does it force many of us to stay indoors and want to hibernate for the winter surviving on takeout and Netflix, when we do have to go out into those freezing conditions, it wreaks havoc on your hair and skin. While giving up on all things beauty during the winter sounds like the easiest solution, there are easier ways to combat the dry air and still look fabolous to everything you do venture out for.
Below is a list of 5 Winter staples every girl needs in their arsenal to make it through the next few cold months:
Nourishing Body Oil
One of the first things we think about when we think of the word ‘dry’ is our skin. Whether we’re outside walking the dog or inside at work or home, our skin is constantly at battle with the dry winter air.
While it is tempting to take steaming hot baths during the winter, doing so can speed up drying your skin out. If you’re like me and can’t kick the hot shower habit, making sure you not only use hydrating body washes (not bar soap!) when you wash and immediately moisturizing when you exit is key to keeping your skin soft and supple.
Instead of body lotion, opt for a nourishing body oil which not only helps to firm your skin, it also helps to intensively nourish your thirsty skin.

Invigorating Dry Shampoo
You may not realize it, but even your hair gets affected by the cold winter air, especially if your hair is long. While we tend to keep our head and ears warm by wearing hats, our hair is still exposed to the cold air and frigid winds, thus drying out our hair follicles, and creating dry, brittle hair and split ends.
While making sure you switch up your shampoo and conditioner in the winter to add extra hydration and moisture, spritzing your locks with dry shampoo in between washes can help protect your mane by absorbing excess oil and prolonging your hair in between washes.

Moisturizing Lip Balm
As our faces are always exposed to the elements, our lips are highly susceptible to drying out quickly. You may not even realize it but we are constantly licking our lips (especially when they’re dry) which only further causes our lips to dry out which can leave them cracked and bleeding.
To help keep those lips looking kissable, make sure you are consistently applying a deeply moisturizing lip balm to protect your fragile lips barrier. To make sure you’re never without your must-have lip balm, keep one at home, in your car and at your desk at work.

A lot of people associate humidifiers with being stuffed up and helping to breathe freely again. A great humidifier is a key tool to have at hand, especially in the winter, as it creates a well-balanced moisturized environment.
When you’re sleeping in an environment with dry air, you tend to wake up feeling dried out inside and out so turning on a humidifier each night helps add moisture to the air so that you can wake up feeling hydrated.

Heavy Duty Hand Lotion
To avoid dry, cracked hands this winter, make sure you have a go-to heavy-duty hand lotion at your disposal. Every time you wash your hands in these dry conditions, your hands are susceptible to dry out faster, thus leading to those painful cracked hands. To avoid this, make sure you moisturize after washing your hands and to reapply throughout the day to keep that protective barrier intact.
